Preferred Career after Graduation:
To work on flood modeling or observation, performing risk analysis for areas under threat of flood events.
Specific Research Area:
Modeling bridge-stream network interactions under transient conditions using 2D HEC-RAS models. Evaluating these interactions to frame bridge risk assessments and flood mitigation.

Student Bio: Rachel is currently a second-year master’s student in the Civil and Environmental Engineering program at the University of Vermont. She completed her undergraduate degree in 2016 receiving a B.S in Environmental Studies focusing in Climate Science and Sustainability. After graduation she worked for a few years, including a position at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in the Safe Drinking Water Bureau. Rachel decided she wanted to pursue interests in risk analysis under flood conditions and began work toward her Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering in June 2019.
