Evolution of Adopting FRP Structural Composites into Practice
This presentation will highlight Florida’s recent experience using FRP structural composites and the evolution of FDOT’s practice in adopting these materials. A brief overview of the various types of applications, acceptance procedures, and some of the perceived barriers to broader adoption.

Steven is a registered professional engineer in Florida and has worked for FDOT for 25-years involved in their in-house bridge design and standards development groups. He currently leads the implementation of Structural Advanced Materials for bridge applications within the FDOT State Structures Design Office. These materials currently include 10 technologies of interest including UHPC, FRC, and various FRP, composite reinforcements which Steve coordinates as Chair of the statewide Structural Advance Materials Technical Advisory Group.
