Student Bio:
Maryam Abazarsa, currently a doctoral research assistant within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Maryam received her Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering but she got interested in interdisciplinary science, so decided to change her field and pursue structural engineering as her master’s degree, where she applied her knowledge of signals and systems to earthquake and structural engineering. Maryam achieved her master’s degree and emerging as one of the program’s top graduates with an outstanding GPA. During her master’s studies, she worked on the development and application of image processing techniques in structural health monitoring (SHM). During her master’s studies she could obtain a golden opportunity to spend a short period in UCLA University as a visiting graduate student to observe and have a taste of the state of the art in research and working with a professional team. Spending that period helped her to increase her level of knowledge in different areas, especially in SHM. Since joining the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Maryam has concentrated her efforts on the area of structural health monitoring for civil infrastructure, encompassing structures such as bridges and railroads. Her research endeavors encompass a broad spectrum of remote and contact-based non-destructive testing methodologies, contributing to the advancement of the field.
